The sovereign went,
Then the government
And the rest of the MP’s;
Then diplomats,
Civil servants
And Council employees.
The Armoured hoards,
The Naval yards,
The Air Force in despair;
Police men,
Fire brethren
And medics everywhere.
Employers gone
And unions done
And workers on the rocks;
Their cars in flames,
The trains the same
And ships sunk in the docks.
Animals fired,
Plants expired,
Minerals gone to ground;
The exodus
Connecting us
As all our fates unwound.
Then women died,
And mankind cried
And slowly left the scene;
The last one out
Appeared to shout,
“We should have saved the Queen.”
