The judicial peace in-between night and day
Was issued with a writ of recusal,
By a jury of creatures bemoaning the fact
That the breaking of dawn was unusual.
The ominous space that invaded first light
Was immediately called to be tested,
But without notice the throat began clearing itself
Of all it had ever ingested.
It transpired that the ground had decided to end
The tenure it gave to the dead,
And opening wider continued to purge
All the cadavers that history had fed.
A great mountain of bones and deceased things
Grew out of control for a year,
Until the world had gained miles in circumference,
And the arc of the sky disappeared.
The nations of man had no way to appease
The torrent of death from the ground,
As the hole kept on bilging material
That had long lost the right to be found.
And for twenty odd years the ritual went on
Until everything living was covered,
By all that had ever been buried beneath
The ancient beliefs of each other.
