Now put two and two together and sum it up as drivel,
Contemplate a salesman’s pitch in ocean bound apparel,
Read and delete messages as life becomes a novel,
Write off to Mensa all the time and watch your mind unravel.
Trash it in the brass bin and fill up beyond the load line,
Drink stout port and brandies whilst your idioms refine,
Speak in tabloid sentences but look like broadsheet pictures,
Endorse the latest crazes and congregate at fixtures.
Toss thoughts into the think tank and fiddle the details,
Run way beyond the finish line but don’t forget to exhale,
Speak before you’re woken too and gingerly imply,
Advertise for patronage and undermine the tie.
Fall and rise on Easter isle and mark it in your diary,
Look up to the government but start your own inquiry,
Drain all of last night’s lovers and part their flat red hair,
Believe all your enemies are dead but concrete with care.
And never use the right to be or left to own devices,
Go straight ahead at roundabouts and escalate the crisis,
Swim with overeaters whilst preparing Swedish breakfasts,
Love everything you ever can but never crave injections.
Leave any institution that expects you to contort,
And research the latest evidence and generalise the lot,
Then serialise your lifestyle before they do it for you
And leave an acre land filled with everything it brought you.
And know the roulette wheel will always stop, but sometimes
on the green,
Regardless of the things you’ve done or said or heard or seen.
