The relevant elephant
Returned to see
The effect it’s affliction
Would have upon me.
In response I replied,
“Well what do you think?”
It’s abhorrent appearance
Reduced me to drink.
Its trunk had retreated
To within an inch of its face;
Too much telling the truth
To the human race,
And it resembled the rhino
And tiger and whale;
Outnumbered by members
Of a Canterbury tale.
So it lumbered off leeward
To begin once again
In a new and unfound land
Devoid of men.
